Concrete Questions

Place all info for making temp and perm shelters

So if I an planning on building a 3 story home, berm earth covered, how do I DIY form the concrete roof for my "basement" level?

I know there are special blocks you can get that you sit steel trusses into and then just fill around them with concrete, but I cant find them. Suggestions?

I hope you are working off of engineered plans! This is not an easy task by a DIY

I am not at the building stage, more so just working out a very crude basic design.

I found the blocks I was seeing, they are called "headers" which makes sense when you think bout it. Does anyone have any vids that show the addition of the trusses and then the pouring of the floor?

Still searching on YouTube. :)

How about this perhaps...

Anyone know if there would be a problem of adding another level of dry stack blocks on top of the full concrete basement assuming I adjusted the footings to carry the weight? The concrete goes right to the edge of the walls so its like a box, in effect. Shouldn't be an issue I dont think...

Are you talking about like extending the basement wall?
Or are you saying that you want to place a full layer of dry stack concrete blocks over an existing concrete ceiling to the basement?

Good question I guess...

I am assuming, as I have VERY little concrete experience, that once the ceiling is done for the basement, I won't be able to continue with the dry stack as I did for the first 8ftish. I am thinking once you pour the ceiling it "tops" the first walls and you need to start a new stack from there to go up through the 2nd level.

But I am in NO way sure of that, just assumptions as I cant find any pics or vids of that phase of it.

You will need to make sure the footing and basement wall will be able to withstand the load of your concrete and steel ceiling of the basement and of the top floors and roof of the final construction.

Yes I do believe you can continue on with your wall blocks on top of the concrete ceiling as long as they are directly above your basement wall and footing.

But I am not a structural engineer.

Here is a site you might want to look at for a building system that makes the strongest, most energy efficient home built today. It can be done as a DIY,or contracted out. www.monolithic.com .Even if the system doesnt appeal to you there are those at their forum that can answer the questions about a poured second floor. www.bbs.monolithic.com/index.php .I'm AKA angelofdodd there.Use the search feature before asking questions.Chances are anything you want to know has been answered already.Matt
