Perfectly correct, when you hump a pack and weight over hard terrain, you learn where you situated your gear and load the weight makes all the differnce. Basic rule of Thumb, heaviest weight goes into bottom of pack, lighter on top.

And put the heavier stuff closer to you body rather than at the outside of the pack so it's not trying to pull your shoulders back and tip you over.

Mission dependent. I have largely packed heavier items toward the top, but, in reality, what gets packed toward the top are the items I'm most likely to use first or most often. When I pack, I orient my gear so that the weight (as has been wisely mentioned) is inward toward my body to prevent tipping and to allow the weight rest on my hips more than my back and shoulders. Of course, my pack rests atop the buttpack of my web harness and that helps.

Mine ways too much!!!!! When you have kids you try to pack alot of extras. Everytime I try to re do it and make it lighter seems like I add something else to it. I think I have a problem wonder if there is any meetings you can go to for it Like AA or something :D

I have alot of food in mine, prob enough for a cpl weeks, about 75% you have to add hot water to,but where I live and where I'd go, water isn't an issue. Several ways to purify water/start fires, shelter, 4 knives(plus the 2 I always have on me),small camp axe, bunch of minor first aid.cpl pairs of gloves etc, theres more but you get the idea, 25lbs,and in the pack I have now and adjusted/packed right, its super easy to pack.
