Well i just wanted to post this to help others or give out ideas.

We have 2 vacuum sealers.

1. Pump And Seal http://pumpnsealfoodsaver.com/index.html
CFI showed me this one a while back and we got one, now the only issue i have is they way they seal ziplocks. So we get the HANDY VAC zip locks from the store and we have a handi vac as well but the pump and seal is very good cause it does not require electricity.

2. Handi Vac http://www.reynoldspkg.com/reynoldskitchens/handi_vac/en/info_page/where_to_buy.asp
These are great for the price and they work pretty good too. Also the bags they sell are not to expensive and we reuse them too.

So post your Sealers and let us know what suits you.

I use the Food Saver type and have for years. I find it reliable, and easy to use.
I even seal jars reliably...I have a large canister for it as well, I put the jar I want sealed in the canister and seal. I kept an open jar of salsa for 6 months this way. I use it to seal jars full of dehydrated veggies and herbs and those little extra bits of long term food storage too small to put in it's own mylar bag.
The Food saver bags are thicker and reusable.

I've gone with the Pump n' Seal - Great little unit.
When in doubt, apply rule ·223 or ·308 -- unless you have a more preferred calibre.

We use 3 sealers: the Gamesaver that vacs and heat seals, the hand pump, and a cordless/rechargeable which both use the ziploc bag. The advantage of the heat-sealing bags is that they can be used in the freezer whereas the ziploc type cannot.

Food Saver here, have a very old one I use to seal tools and gear and a new one I now use only for foods.

I have been thinking of getting a food saver but my question is this, suppose I use it for dry grains such as rice, beans etc. how long should I expect the food to still be good to use if it is in the food saver plastic bags?

I have used it for years and expect the grains to be perfectly fine as long as they are also put in a tub/bucket and the seal lasts on the bag. I'd check yearly.
