Salt an be used as a dentifrice. Rinsing your mouth with salt water will aid in killing bacteria.
Some native tribesman chew on twigs and small branches and use the ends of them as scrapers or toothpicks. Chew mint or wintergreen leaves. I don't know how well the pine needles would work, but boiling pine needles into a kind of tea yields a lot of vitamin C which is important to good oral hygiene...wards off scurvy. |

around here, theres a tree called the sweetgum that the indians would chew on, and it even has a pleasant taste.
