Prepare yourself for impending danger. The Hoboken Office of Emergency Management (OEM) has organized a training program for Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT), which starts up tonight and runs every Monday night until April 12. The eight-week program teaches people to be prepared for disasters, training them in basic response skills with respect to fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization and disaster medical operations.
The program takes place from 6:30 to 9 p.m., in the ground floor conference room as accessed via the Newark Street side of City Hall.
According to a news release, participants must attend every module of training as well as participate in the final emergency simulation exercise in order to receive certification as a fully trained CERT Team member.
The training program will consist of disaster preparedness, disaster fire safety/suppression, disaster medical operations (two parts), light search & rescue operations, psychology & team organization and terrorism awareness.
Participants will be issued a CERT Member Emergency Kit upon completion of the program.
