I ran across this backpack the other day and thought it may be good for a BOB. It definitely offers some advantages.

looks cool... you'd probably have to be careful with it though. That might be a great idea to add on to another pack as well, provided the cells were well-protected from impact - maybe ballistic glass? That'd make this extremely useful.

LOL, Sixfold. I think solar power for stuff is the farthest from my mind when I am relying on my BOB.
I have solar panels at the BOL, at home and in the camper, but if I am stuck with using the BOB, I am not concerned with power. My BOB is more about long-term survival and is more primative in nature. Its not a bad idea, but I would rather use that space and weight for fire starters, food or shelter. But it is cool. |

Yeah I wondered about the durability of those panels. I think it would be nice for some type of com unit. Hooking a CB up to the battery would be a simple operation. Or possibly even small electric warmers for when temperatures reach the extreme.

I know it's on e-bay and all, but check it out. I'll have one in the BOV soon. |

Theres a guy over here in Australia called Kevin Casey that walks through the outback by himself and is an excellet survivalist. He uses a flexible solar panel and just drapes it over his back pack while hes walking.
It could be used to charge a GPS, Handheld UHF, Torches, Radios or any other amount of accessories. |
