One thing I have been thinking of reminding people who may not know it, that if your bugging out with a vehicle there are a few fast rules you should always follow.

1. Always check the vehicle over before you begin a trip, walk it, check tires, fluid levels, battery connections, gear is strapped down firmly, spare is good, etc.
2. When you stop for the night (if you do), first fill the vehicle with fuel and do what ever maintenance is needed. Do not wait, do not, eat first, live by the rule, vehicle, equipment then the man. If you have to bug out fast from a camp, you want to make sure your full of fuel and vehicle is ready to go.
3. Camouflage the vehicle with either nets, branches or brush so it can not be easily seen. Make sure if you must the vehicle is pointed in the direction you would bug out in and the camouflage does not hinder it's ability to do so.
4. Do not camp in an open area or next to water source. Both tend to draw people and make it too easy to be seen. Camp in a place where people do not normally travel so they don't stumble upon you.
5. Keep a guard, no matter how far off the beaten path you may be, Murphy's law says someone will stumble upon you and you need that guard.
6. When on the move, keep people looking out, make sure you cover approaches and watch for ambushes, natural blockages or man made, etc. The driver is busy driving, they can't be watching everything and all sectors, make sure someone is.

I've just acquired 4 new wheels (free via contacts) and purchased 4 new tires (about $800 worth) so that during a shtf situation I have 4 spares if needed and ready to go. I took off my E rated as they were showing wear. Not sure what I'll use during a shtf scenario but for now they are in storage. I may use those as my main 4 during a shtf situation to minimize any sidewall punctures. I'm sure there will be plenty of off-roading during that time. Better to use the strongest tires available to me and save the newer 4 as spares or for winter driving.

And always check your spare tire because a lot of the time people forget about it until it's too late and probably 75% of the time it is flat or low on air. Always have a small air compressor in the vehicle and some extra wire which can be used for many things.

if at all possible pack an alternate means of transport in case you must abandon your primary vehicle. bicycles and motorized scooters may not be our preferred way to get to our destination but they sure beat walking (and are faster as well). if nothing else, a jogging stroller will make moving your equipment much easier and many can be used as trailers on bicycles as well.

Cut off switch for ignition/fuel? proper tool set for tireswaps. depending on the vehicle spares of fuel filters KNOW your towing/weight limits.

Can you carry, tow and stop with what you are carring.

Spare, Belts, Hoses, Fuel, Fuses.
Tire Plug kit to patch the holes you find with the green slim oozing out. Ten ply tires.
Even been saved by having another distributor and spark plug wires.

Some places your going to want 2 spare tires. What happens when your on the way to your destination in the middle of nowhere and now you have 4 good tires...You'll have to turn around because you can't drive back out on 3 tires.

One standard that arose when 'donut' spares became common was to actually go out and get a real tire for the spare.

I'd suggest only going with fix a flat or tire sealer if you need it. I've heard from multiple guys at tire change places and multiple car forums that tire repair kits are highly flammable and can actually cause problems should you ever need to actually remove the tire and patch it.
