If you live near or can readily get to an area with a high percentage of Orthodox Jewish folks, the neighborhood supermarket will almost certainly stock Shabbat candles in the Kosher aisle. These will often come packaged 72 candles for under $6. They don't burn as long as 'emergency' or camping candles, but holy cr@p 72 are a LOT!! Along with some cheapo tea candles, a couple of boxes of these should do for light and alternative heat for quite a while.

My bad, I just checked the price, it's now just under $12/box of 72. Still not too bad.

Also, new candles can be made by remelting old candles and stubs. Melt in oven at low heat and pour into glass container and insert one of the Shabatt candles. Presto, new candle!

LOL, we always have a couple boxes in the freezer, as we use them for the intended purose anyway.
Actually, a much better candle from the Jewish community would be the memorial candle (lit when there is a death in the family). These come in what looks like a 24 oz drinking glass and they stay lt for a week.

Another type of candle thats great for the BOB is trick B-Day candles. They are awesome for starting fires in windy conditions. You can also put them in a shell casing, and pour melted wax around them. These make a great little wind resistant camp light, that wont get crushed up in your BOB when banged around.Matt
