Hi all I have been watching youtube.com about rain barrels. I have found two videos that I really liked. The first one was by a guy named PackRatt556 and the other by Lowes.

PackRatt556 used blue barrels and then painted in como. I really liked his as it was just as simple and Im sure cheaper then the one Lowes made.

Lowes took trash cans and used them and they worked great for this. I didnt think about big outdoor trash cans as being used for them.

I went to Lowes web site looking for the printable directions on building one but I can not find it.

Does anyone have a site that uses the trash cans and blue barrels with directions that can be printed out. I wouldnt mind making them for around the house and for my grandmother who has a small gardden. She is 86 and I hate to see her trying to water her plants when we are not there.

So if anyone has plans on how to do this that I can print out that would be great.

Thanks all for your help.

Here is my roof rain collection system.
The leg hanging down is a first flush, then when the water builds up, it flow into the blue drum (I painted it blue to help with algae growth),
It does have a spicket at the bottom for draining.
I treat it with bleach from time to time.

I then pump it to the second drum, (in the pulpit), filtering it with a small pool filter.
The second has a 12 volt sprayer pump, to a 2-1/2 gal water heater, from there to a sprayer head for showers on the "porch".

Not much to it, but works well.
My basic tool rules:
Deploy your assets, if you spread them out no one know how many you really have............................
Redundant calibers are just another asset...........
Have passed, "need", along time ago.........
Invest in airplanes and firearms, never women or cars.......
Precious metals..........Brass and lead......
The more you know, the less you have to carry.......
