Yep , got plenty of ketchup.
But alas Dennis is in the doghouse once again. Carol was making a big pot of chili this morning to take down to the American Legion for the crew thats putting up Christmas decorations. Once again she said words, "some survivalist you are, we're out of canned tomatoes" . After she left, I dug around in the totes and found 3 cases. Restocked the pantry first thing. Being a prepared / survivalist is a heavy title sometimes....... |

Annoying ain't it?
Chi came home with a 1kg tub of honey because, "I thought we were out". There was a full 1.5 kg tub in the main pantry that she just didn't see, but also another 9½ kg in the storeroom. "Have we got any cocoa?" Only the ½ kg staring you in the face when you open the pantry door - in that container labelled 'Cocoa'. There's also another 5 kg in the storeroom. "The girls have used the last of the sugar." Told you, there's 54 kg in 2 kg packs in the first barrel beside the storeroom door.. "I meant brown sugar". Oh... We've only got 20 kg of that. New Rule: When we're 'out' of anything, ask Papa before panicking. ......Bid... When in doubt, apply rule ·223 or ·308 -- unless you have a more preferred calibre.

The more I label and the better organized I am, the less I buy things I already have.
I swear hubby looks on the ceiling to see if we have what he wants, so perhaps a list would be a good idea too. |

Keeping an up-to-date record of stores is not just a good idea: It's essential.
Noting on the list exactly where everything is located, if not obvious, would be good for those of your family needing access if you're not around. There are a number of ways you could make up such a list, and you could also include information such as date of purchase, and cost. BTW, how much do you think you save when you buy bulk at a discount rate? For most people I've spoken to, the savings equate to those that you make at the time of purchase, however the saving should be calculated against the cost in the supermarkets at the time of opening an item. For example: A 50¢ can purchased at 40¢ is a saving of 10¢, however if you don't use that item straight away, and it sits in your stores until you use it 12 months later, when its price in the supermarket has risen to, say, 65¢, you've actually saved 25¢. Beats inflation doesn't it? My brother goes to the extent of weighing all his home grown produce and calculating the savings against store prices, less the cost of seed/seedlings. (He doesn't include cost of time/labour as for relaxation he does gardening instead of watcing TV.) When in doubt, apply rule ·223 or ·308 -- unless you have a more preferred calibre.

I have a link somewhere for software to keep track of your supplies when you got them and when it's time to rotate them it's pretty good software I just haven't had time to order it. I'll find the link and post it asap

These are the links. They are good for keeping track/inventory of other things as well. Hope they help some.

OS, I've seen a few similar software prorams that can cater for prepping, but going back through this thread I re-read the post from "Dawgus" and think that the system he uses is pretty simple and effective. (I really like simple and effective.) In fact, as I am planing to do a stocktake soon I've decided to adopt his system.

This stocktake is going to take some time: Started today 'cause it's too hot to work outside, but with the amount of stuff to record I think I'm going to have writer's cramp before I'm finished.
