Wouldn't hesitate to. If there's nasties growing in the can it will either bulge or smell nasty when you open it. They've found canned food on shipwrecks that was hundreds of years old and still edible and I guarantee they didn't have the preservatives in them that your Beanie Weenies did. I read somewhere that with the amount of preservative we consume now-days our bodies will take a long time to decompose whereas it happened quite fast 100 years ago.

My wife's father found a large stash of SPAM in a cave in Tajikistan from WW2 and most of it was still eatable, during the early 80's things were very tough in the Soviet Union, this was the only meat they had for well over a year. What they did not eat they were able to trade and people were happy to have it.
A good plan violently executed today is far and away better than a perfect plan tomorrow. Better to fight for something than live for nothing. General George S. Patton

When I was aboard ship in New Zealand in '68 I met a guy from England who had the previous year been ordered to dump a warehouse full of canned food that had been stored since WWII. He was pretty angry about it because the food was in perfectly good condition. (He knew that because he took a lot of it home for his own use.)

I've also purchased quite a few cans of stuff, at bulk prices, that I haven't been able to consume before the due date - more than 12 months ago - and have no problems when using them.

I also think that the public is being conned in many cases; it forces people to constantly resupply their larders at ever increasing prices.
When in doubt, apply rule ·223 or ·308 -- unless you have a more preferred calibre.
