NRWA OUTDOOR SURVIVAL SERIES FOR YOUTH TO BE HELD

GROTON - Join Nashua River Watershed Association (NRWA) naturalists/educators on adventuresome explorations of the woods, meadows, and waters and learn cold weather survival skills. NRWA's Outdoor Survival Series is a four-week after school program for 11- to 14-year-olds. Get outside and learn to find your way with compasses and nature's own hints; enjoy some outdoor cooking and build natural shelters. This program meets from 2:45 to 4:45 p.m. Tuesdays in March (3/2, 3/9, 3/16, and 3/23) at the NRWA River Resource Center, 592 Main St. The fee is $50 for NRWA members; $70 for non-members. Pre-registration is required as space is limited by calling (978) 448-0299.

This is something that most ppl I've spoken with have not even thought about. I found a really good article about teaching children wilderness safety and survival early....especially if they are going to spend any amount of time in the woods....like camping, etc.

Some suggestions I thought were prudent is to remember that in a crisis situation, your children are still children, and some form of entertainment will help ease their fears and the stresses of the "new situation". Stuffed animals for youngsters was mentioned as was books, and small travel games.
