I guess I was wondering about lack of replies my self.
Good info, but pic's would have been a nice touch.

Actually mattress shelter remind me of the "dining room tents" we made as children, including the "A-frame" over a line.

Carpeting/area rugs were also used, till we got hollered at, move pieces of furniture off,...lift up carpet/area rug, block up with furniture.
Pretty dirty/dusty though.

Shower curtains are a nice find, used a piece of heavy duty vinyl shower curtain under bivy sack.

Thanks for posting.
My basic tool rules:
Deploy your assets, if you spread them out no one know how many you really have............................
Redundant calibers are just another asset...........
Have passed, "need", along time ago.........
Invest in airplanes and firearms, never women or cars.......
Precious metals..........Brass and lead......
The more you know, the less you have to carry.......

Another thing you may realize that mattresses are good for. Protection. Living down in tornado country as we did a number of years ago (20 to be exact) we would occasionally have tornados. If you didn't have an underground shelter the advice was if a tornado was approaching you would go to a bathroom in your home that did not have windows and get in the iron tub and pull a mattress over the top of you to help protect you from falling or flying debris. We actually had to do this on new years eve in 1991 when our home was hit by a tornado. Got the wife and two toddlers, jumped into the tub and pulled our queen mattress over us. The tornado took off part of our roof and damaged a number of homes in the neighborhood but we survived unscathed without a scratch.
