Self inflating mats are great! I use one together with my closed cell mat, putting that on the ground first, then placing the self inflater on top. Gives me that little extra insulation, but also protects the SIM from being punctured by sharp stones and twigs. It doesn't add much weight to my pack, and rolled up tight doesn't take up a lot of space either.
When in doubt, apply rule ·223 or ·308 -- unless you have a more preferred calibre.
