East German Survival Vest

Gear used for survival
PostPosted: Sun Mar 28, 2010 10:12 pm
This is a little project I did using 2 old East German Paratrooper Vests and Turned them in to survival/hunting/foraging vests. I used an East German shelter half for scrap material and also used 500 denier camo green cordura to reinforce the main large pockets and the extra internal pockets. Any of the large pockets you see are 2 ply. 500 denier cordura inside and the EG rain pattern camo outside. There is a shade variance between the old vest and the newer pouches. That was unavoidable. It made little difference to me though as these are just for knocking around in the woods with. They do both have a nice little holster built in for a Mararov which holds my Kahr K9 quite nicely as do the 1911 pouches work well with the mags.
I added the subdued US Flag to each because it looked good and it showed my brand loyalty.;-)
I retained some of the original pouches and both vests and use them for light gear like extra para cord, fishing kit and what not.
I decided to use original EG canteens because they matched and I used a simple spring clip on the vest and attached a small D ring on the canteen strap for easy on off. The canteens also have a nice little cup over the cap that I like.
Tell me what you think.

:gs:

I like it, do you set it up to be a small go bag?
I did with a fishing vest. Has enough stuff in it to keep ok for couple days.

Its more like a go vest. You see it unpacked in these pictures. It can hold the really basic stuff and then some. I can also throw a ruck on and off I go. I thought the holster on the vest was pretty cool too. They come that way, I just changed the closures. I have cool project examples I do that are survival related. I'll post them in the near future.
