Totally agree with your advice HP: A serious heart to heart with those family members that you would consider offering shelter to.
Our daughters live at home now, but when the time comes for them to spread their wings and make their own homes, they will always be welcome.
My sister and BIL would be welcome, despite the fact that they are not preppers by any means, but they would have to come under their own steam. Likewise my brother, however he is more prep minded and has a remote BOL to which we can go to if need be.

When in doubt, apply rule ·223 or ·308 -- unless you have a more preferred calibre.

Get them prepared to come to you.
List of needed things.. GPS Water and food in vehicle good vehicle Set up for them a Good BOB and place in it the basics. arms.. 1 lever action rifle, caliber not important, and 100-200 rounds. can be had cheap at a pawn shop. preferable pistol caliber? 1 handgun, with 2-300 rounds, also can be had cheap. and a scatter gun. doesnt matter what guage, action or whatever, only 100 rounds really needed. this will get them to you, where you have what's needed and have more arms. |

I'm glad this post is still getting responses. I beleive there a two trains of thought on this and subsets.
SOme say. You didn't prep. I warned ya. Your on your own. Some say. You didn't prep. I warned ya. But your family. So, I'll still help you. The subset's are these. You didn't prep. I warned ya. Your on your own.( AT SHTF onset). After time or incidences.SOme may want to see what happened with their fam or friends. You didn't prep I warned ya.Your on your own.I planned on trying to help ya. But, not anymore. Not now.( After time or incidendences). For ME. My essential family now have written plans provided by me. The plans include how to get to me.WHat to bring. Things they should get NOW. It also has contingencies within the plan. "Don't fire unless fired upon. But if they want a war let it begin here."

Personally if any of my family shows up, I am taking them in, but they are all assets. If they come to me, means something bad happend where they were, no way I would turn them down, because they are all prepper.

Even if it is ONLY 800 miles ROUND TRIP, you could be gone MONTHS! I would make a Pact with them, and arrange for them to be at a particular place, nearly Half-way, at a particular date/time, and would not risk my stores, my family, or my life to go the whole way. So, tell them that you will try to pick them up on the night of the Second Full moon after Declaration of Emergency, at the appointed half-way point. If negative contact, the night after, and again the next night. If still Negative contact, so sorry!
I would arrange similar terms with the other families, plan the pick ups so taht you have time to get to each half-way point. I would pick up the closest ones first, so you have someone to guard the place while you're gone. It would also give you a feel for how bad it is gonna be to go to the Farthest place, and train you up equipment and supplies wise for the longer trip. I would seriously consider having them come to me, if it were me. +1Christian4Israel

No one who owns a Scout willingly sells it. I have 2 left and sold the other 2 a couple years ago when I got laid off, had that not happened I'd still have all 4. It's a disease just like CAD (chainsaw addicts disorder) which I also have. Can't pass up any pre 1975 saw running or not.

This is always a big topic for preppers. Only you have the answer you need, no one else can give you a correct answer. you must follow your heart and pray. Me I am half and half. Some family I would take and some I would not. just who ever comes will know that this is not a voting body. I will be the only vote that counts. My BOL is of my friends and when we are there if any body goes with me. My friend family has the only vote. I am not saying every body is not welcome but they will have to listen and do or dont. if they don't they will be asked to leave or Shot if they refuse to leave I will not keep a burden around me and others. just to suck off are hard work.
Yes before anybody says that is mean or wrong. One weak link can break a chain. I am not talking about Children here just Adults 21 & up. "I Love my country,But I do not agree with my government"
