Question-Is your BOL safe and secure?
My thought on this is if you have purchased a location to bug out to,have all your trips to this location to stock it gone unnoticed.
If you think that it is remote and no one would notice my comings and goings think again.
People(some people)know what goes on in their AOC(area of concern)as in vacant properties suddenly cared for or an increase in traffic sign(its a tracking thing)on seldom used dirt roads, trails leading into fields, woods,or new hunting or fishing camps
It would really be SHTF time if you have bugged out only to find your BOL occupied or ransacked.
What do you do to make sure your choice of bug out locations is safe and secure and your efforts have gone unnoticed?
Comments and opinions please.
BOL locations safe ?

Our BOL is a farm, someone lives there full time. If/when TSHTF, several families will meet there.

Listen to Sarge about finding a place where you or some of your family can stay full time, be very sure that when not if the SHTF that you can actually get to your retreat. Look for places that are defensible, where you have a clear field of fire, where being fire bombed is going to be difficult, where you can grow and defend your food supply. Think medieval fortress, no not a castle (though that would work just fine) think razor wire, defensive trenches and sand bags to bullet proof your living space. OK! So razor wire sounds extreme? Hide it in plain sight. Surround the access areas around your retreat by creating a fence of 6" well casing pipe, bury it 6' feet deep in concrete and at least 6' high. Drill 1/2' holes starting from 12" below ground level to the top at 12" intervals. Run standard barbed wire through these holes, then bring out the razor wire and place it on the outside of the fence but through the barbed wire securing it in place. Fill the well casing with concrete. Now plant Blackberry bushes at 12" intervals right under the center of the razor wire. When you are finished you will have what amounts to a wall, it will take some serious armor like a bulldozer to get through it. Anyone who tried to climb over it will be very seriously hurt and going through it is not an option. besides the Blackberries will taste great. I know this works because I have done it. Thanks for the suggesions Tigerpaw but I am confident in the defensive measures of my home place (bugging in). It is located way out in the sticks with only one road to the front with natural barriors to either side. My dogs (who give plenty of adavanced warning to any "visitors") and I often patrol an inner and outer perimeter and will know if someone has been in the area.In the event of a major S*** hitting the fan event only minor final prepperations need to be made to long term defensive measures.
The purpose of the post is more towards the awareness some locals maintain in their areas and any counter measures that may safeguard a bug out location and supplies in the event someones couriousuty gets the better of them. For example in my AOC (area of concern) I know where every abandoned or vacant home is , where every dirt track and trail goes and whether or not there is an increase in traffic on them. Whether or not an "unfamiliar" vehicle is just passing through or belongs to a neighbor or not. Since most people in my area are long time solid country folk either farmers or ranchers and very few rental properties in the area , any newcomers are noted and sometimes welcomed and any "undesirable" types (who stand out like a sore thumb btw) are watched and dont usually stay too long. Pretty much a secure area where the comings and goings of strangers do not go unnoticed for very long. |

militiaof1 if you are far enough out then you stand a chance, still having a 1000 or so sand bags on hand is great insurance as you can make your living space bullet proof fairly easily.

Earlier I suggested a how to secure you property from people wandering through uninvited, believe me the barbed wire fencing, razor wire and Blackberry bushes work and work well. But what do you do about your next line of defense?
You have funneled the people and or vehicle(s) into a narrow defensible corridor, your driveway. Lets say you have 200' between your gate (yes you have a gate or you should have) and your home, you need to have a clear field of fire, do not give the enemy anyplace to hide. Be sure to sandbag your living spaces with at a minimum 10" of well packed sandbags double stacked to at least 5' above ground level. Ok you now have a fortress but you need something to stop the big bad 4WD/Semi Truck from simply smashing down your gate. No problem dig a trench starting 3' to 6' from the sides of your gate posts which should be triple stacked (triangle pattern) 6" or 8" (better) well casing set in and filled with cement. This trench needs to be 2-55 gallon drum widths wide (1-55 gallon drum cut in half), in a "U" shape at least 4' deep with the trench walls as vertical as you can get them. Line the trench with as many cut in half 55 gallon (plastic) as is needed. Anchor the drum halves in place with 1/2" rebar using tie wraps. Cover the drums with plastic tarps and 1/2" marine grade plywood making sure the ply rests on top of the rebar. Fill the trench back in until the SHTF. When you need to secure your fortress, removing the fill can be done quickly, fill with water and you have a mote. Now before you laugh, think what you have created in the mind of your enemy, he does not know how deep the water is, so you have created uncertainty and fear in his/their mind, he/thay can not drive or ram his way across it and I guarantee he will not have bridging equipment. No he will figure you are too much trouble and move on to easier pickings especially if you are shooting at him/them, which you should be. If things get really hairy add some diesel, vegetable oil and gasoline on top of the water, use a flare fired from your shotgun to set it off and you will really discourage them but do this as a last resort because it will burn hot, long and with a dense black smoke which will be seen for miles.
