woodland, you'll notice that my equipment is set up in stages. there's the stuff that's on my person all the time, my fanny pack and my BOB. this has two benefits. first if, after the SHTF, i face ANOTHER crisis which removes the BOB from my possession i'll still have the other kits to fall back on. second, i can grab just the fanny pack for short trips or get by on what's on me for going around town yet still have some equipment in case i need it.

putting together a BOB AND a truck kit/get home bag is a great idea imho...as i try to explain all the time, multiple redundancies is the mark of a true prepper.

tigerpaws, it's not really that heavy. my Garand weighs 9 lbs. my yugo SKS weighs exactly the same and an AK is only 1.5 lbs lighter. heck, even a full sized AR-15 with a full mag is only 2 lbs lighter (and the Garand is hard hitting and accurate out to 3 times the distance of the others).

Anyone know how little room is in the back of a Jeep Wrangler with the back seat in? I have a secure back deck and there is very little room back there.

I keep: jumper cables, come-a-long, electric winch, tow straps, tool belt, road-side emergency kit, first-responder kit, and a "three day food-water pack" for getting home.

It does not take a lot of room to carry supplies. Just think of what you "need" to survive for a day or two and "need" to get home with.

If I had no other choice, I could "survive" out of my Jeep. I would not be happy, and it would be tough, especially if the wife and kid were with me, but we could.

Of course the compact 1911 that stays locked in the Jeep will go a long way towards "procurement" in a true SHTF situation.
