oh, it's not reality, just my dream. i do know just about everything about deactivated missile silos and most of the info in the story is correct, but it'd literally take millions to acquire and clean one up.
so...how'd you like the story?

i'm glad you enjoyed it but i'm afraid at this point that continuing is unlikely. it's been too long and i'm a different person now. i may one day rewrite the whole thing but i doubt i'll take it any farther. most likely i'd flesh out the main story and end it with the nuke.

thank you, but the credit goes to God. He was guiding me the entire time (until i gave in to the readers and kept going after He told me to end it).

Great story.
Have some comments, not derogatory: 1. People could not survive long without animal inputs. I mean in general, if people have died from a human disease, it would be unlikely to be the same with animals. There would be sheep, cattle and goats etc everywhere as fences fall over, breeding continues unchecked. Every day looking for food, to me means looking for things walking around, to shoot, dress and hang ready to cook for the group. 2. Having so many aircraft flown by people trained by people that are not really pilots would lead to lots of deaths. Helicopters are the most dangerous thing invented in the past 100 years in terms of transport. There should have been a crash or two at least every year. 3. The maintenance issue was brought up late in the story. Knowing aircraft quite well, I thought about this right from the first time you metioned aircraft usage. AC are very maintenance hungry. If a vehicle blows a tyre or the brakes dont work too well, it is no big deal. a C-17 with dodgy brakes would be a different story.... 4. The interactions between groups is quite good and seemingly plausible. I can see people behaving badly like the crazy woman at the town, although I think the lawlessness would make her a target very much sooner, and find her sitting at her desk with a hole in her head. 5. The non-military interactions between groups also seems plausible. Although people on this board bang on about military training and such, chances are, most people won't know the first thing about military tactics or use of firearms in an organized manner. 6. The tactical nuke part is very unlikely. Who is going to know how to launch a cruise missile, let alone where it was fired from??? This would be from a box launcher on a ship, from a B52 or B1B or something similar. I am sure there are ground launched units...I think this part of the story is a shortcut, as no other short way of ending the reign of the mad mayor came to light. Now, if some other town came to the gate and said "give us the mad mayors head on a spear, and we will go away" would have been more likely. 7. The main man in the story surely is a good guy - a bit too good. He needs to have failings like the ones I have seen in church (including born again) leaders - arrogance, self interest, knowing more about "the word of God" than anyone else in their version of Christianity. All falsehoods of course. 8. The main gist of the story about survival and scavenging pretty much everything is good food for thought. The diesel strategy is also good. Farms and machinery dealers are great storage areas for gear. One other thing that should also be included are tools, and workshop equipment. |
