I have a 1993 JEEP Wrangler with 170,000 miles. She is a great ride but the engine is getting weak. I am thinking about when I freshing up the engine to make her EMP proof. I do not plan on "Bugging out" because I own 100 acres with many more around me. They will bury me here if need be. My question is "Is there a book or manual I can purchase to help me in this task?" Having a ride when everyone's is down will be a great help. If it can't be done then I could just hook some horses to the front and pull it. LOL

A chilton manual, and a parts jeep would be your best bet. If you want to make it EMP proof, you'll have to eliminate all of the electronics. This will require both a mechanical(carburetor) fuel system, and a mechanical(points) ignition system. The alternator is pretty much stuck there, not sure what EMP would do to the diodes inside the voltage regulator. it's not really my area of expertise, but a chilton manual is going to be essential. I doubt they ever made a points distributor for a 4.0 engine, I don't think it's that old. You may end up making the stuff to develop a points system...or rigging stuff from something else. It's a start, anyhow.
I'll keep my Freedom, Guns and my Constitution, you keep the change.

Buy a spare alternator and store it in an EMP proof spot. I doubt you could really completely EMP proof your jeep without losing some capabilities due to added weight.

About the only way you could fully emp proof your jeep is if you build a walkout garage and burry it about 8" underground solid Rick walls no block. Vapor barrier wrap to keep out moisture gravel bottom to help with water flow, and some kind of ventilation pipe running out the top with a fan on the inside to help regulate air when the steel door is shut. And important part have it properly grounded in case one does hit it will prevent the emp from getting in. PVC pipe is a none conductor of electric charge and would serve best as your air vent, just make sure to have a cap on the end you can plug it if needed. This is only a guess more or less but emp field would greatly dissipate once it hits the ground I would think?

To EMP proof a vehicle.....Remove battery and alt/generator and place in faraday cage. Viola your vehicle is safe from EMP. Undriveable but safe :D

Check the local junkyards, you may be able to pick up an alternator, ECU, coil, injectors, etc for a lot cheaper and it would probably be less hassle than converting to just store the "new" parts in a farady cage and swap out what has failed in the event of an EMP.

Sorry, Stephanie - that is not so. Battery does not need any protection. The Alternator is just one of many, many Devices that use solid-state components. Many cars have and use more than Five Computers. If any EMP is relatively Strong, the Only sure way to protect any solid-state and Low voltage devices, is to put them inside a completely surrounding "Faraday Cage" of Metal Mesh, or Sheet Metal. Need not be grounded, but Grounding prevents possible Shocking/electrocution of anyone touching the cage when the EMP(s) passes.
