If you live near or can readily get to an area with a high percentage of Orthodox Jewish folks, the neighborhood supermarket will almost certainly stock Shabbat candles in the Kosher aisle. These will often come packaged 72 candles for under $6. They don't burn as long as 'emergency' or camping candles, but holy cr@p 72 are a LOT!! Along with some cheapo tea candles, a couple of boxes of these should do for light and alternative heat for quite a while. My bad, I just checked the price, it's now just under $12/box of 72. Still not too bad. Also, new candles can be made by remelting old candles and stubs. Melt in oven at low heat and pour into glass container and insert one of the Shabatt candles. Presto, new candle!
