Depending on how serious a pepper you are. We have half a dozen bottles of the potassium iodide (sp?) tablets both in out home as well as our BOB's. In addition i have stocked several NBC suits in both our sizes as well as masks . I also have a NBC decon kit as well. While here we are pretty much unlikely to have a nuke emergency we have several very real chem disaster dangers around us. ( Large rail yard, barge traffic on river, HUGE chemical plants within 10 air miles.) So the gear is pretty much in case of a spill. However I feel that "just in case" is a good idea.
If by my experiences, mistakes, and training. I can help one person to gain the wisdom that will allow them to survive or to save the life of someone they love then I can truly say, that all of the things I have done have been worth every second spent.

[quote="Christian for Israel"]if you already have radioactive iodine in your thyroid you may as well give your pills to someone else as they won't help you. radioactive iodine gives off it's radiation slowly. when consumed it will pass harmlessly out of the body before it can cause any ill effects UNLESS it is absorbed by the thyroid gland, where it will sit for months and slowly poison you. potassium iodide works by filling the thyroid with a non-radioactive form of iodine thus preventing the gland from absorbing the dangerous kind.
but the most important thing to remember is, radioactive iodine is the ONLY thing it blocks and it is only one of MANY different forms of radiation...and not even all that common. also, most of the other kinds will kill you MUCH faster and can only be stopped by distance or shielding. i'm not saying don't buy or take the KI, just understand that it's not a "radiation pill" that will allow you to dance in the fallout...at best it's use is extremely limited in it's effectiveness. as for where to get it as well as rad meters and LOTS of information, http://www.KI4U.com is the place to go. Shane and his people are the premiere producers and calibrators of radiological equipment for the US military and US gvmt. they're also great people and will do anything they can to help you understand the real dangers (there's lots of myths out there) and get you prepared for them without charging you an arm and a leg. check them out. ok,thanks for the help.im going to check out KI4U .
