a first aid kit for both home and bob's would be my suggestion. The big thing I would suggest considering is a generator that both you and the wife can use easily and a stock of fuel for it. Congrats on the good start!

Check you immediate area for hazards such as flooding, chemical plants, crime stats, whatever so you know and get to know routes in and out, including on foot, from and more importantly, to, your home.

i reccomrnd stocking/ storing........
Alternate cooking methods. if soething happens and your kitchen is out of commision, I have a gas/ charcoal grill, a couple of propane camp stoves, an esbit stove in each BOB, and a "pocket" stove by wetfire. Alternate light source. Battery powered lanterns, candles, iol lamps, etc. Alternate heating source ( for winter) If your home doesn't have one maybe add a wood stove, I have a couple of electric heaters I can plug into my generator, as well as a couple of kerosene heaters, It's also a good idea to store extra blankets and pillows, alternate shelter, if somethin like an earthquake makes your home un-occupiable, like a camper, tent(s) etc. water storage... It could be anywhere from the 5 gallon plastic jugs from wally world up to 500 gallon plastic tanks from the local farm store. As mentioned before first aid supplies as well as a stock of commonly used items, like aspirin, aleve, stomach meds like rolaids, tums and such. Along with extra personel hygeine items. There are hundreds of things you could store. You might want to make a list of what you use daily, weekly and so on. Keep a tab of how much you use and add it up then when you go to the store add one or two extra items on your list to put in your "stores" As you build your supply you rotate out the older items and use them as you replace them with the newest purchases. If by my experiences, mistakes, and training. I can help one person to gain the wisdom that will allow them to survive or to save the life of someone they love then I can truly say, that all of the things I have done have been worth every second spent.

Wow is that a Loaded question..... You can find pages upon pages of what people think you should have here and most of them are very good and needed items. It really depends on what a person , couple or family is prepping for to answer that question realistically. But the basics would be IMO.... Food Water Shelter Defense First Aid Myself, I am a "dooms Dayer" Prepper I try to prepare for any and all scenarios that may happen whether it be a personal disaster such as Loss of job or a local disaster (flooding, ice storm or tornado). And then there is the worst case scenario such as EMP attack, Solar Flare or a world wide "bug" So what I am saying people prep for diff. reasons and you need to figure out what your prepping for and start from there. Once you know that you can implement your plan. Salcor

Check your area for an LDS store. I'm not Mormon and have purchased just under $3k of #10 cans and 25# bags of lots of storable food.

It's really easy. Plan on living till you're 95 or so, and just get those things you will need between now and then.

I suggest getting a weapon to defend yourself if you have to bug out. One never knows and the world is a dangerous placeith many ill meaning dangerous people.

first and foremost is mindset. prepping is not something you DO, it's something you ARE. putting back a little food or a BOB and then going back to your consumer lifestyle won't help you when the S hits TF. trying to do everything at once is also a great way to get frustrated and give up.
a real prepper is in it for the long haul. he recognizes that civilized society is a mirage and chaos is just below the surface. for this reason he has a natural distrust of the easy just in time system we have and is very aware of how easy it could come apart. THIS is why he preps...not because he thinks one crisis or another is likely, but because the system itself is so fragile and ANYTHING out of the ordinary has the potential to shatter it. this is why a real prepper is ALWAYS looking for deals, ALWAYS stocking up, ALWAYS learning how to live independant of the system. simply buying a years supply of stuff and then getting back to 'real life' is a great way to feel good right up until the time the bottom falls out, then roll over and die with the sheeple. i'm not saying that a person can't learn to be a prepper, just that you have to understand that a mindset change is necessary. prepping is a lifestyle and that is the most important thing you can get if you really want to make it. once you have that mindset you'll find that most of your questions will answer themselves. ![]() "Once when Bruce Nelson was asked by a suspect if the thirteen-round magazine in the P35 was not a big advantage, Bruce’s answer was, “Well, yes, if you plan to miss a lot.” - Jeff Cooper
