I have seen people put them inside a glass jar which seems to work out well for light indoors after they are charged. The panel and led are glued to the top ring of a canning jar.

I've never seen them, where you couldnt replace the batteries with either more NiCad,NiMH,or Li batteries. There only worth the pv cell, and diode otherwise.

Good investment to any DIY person messing with stuff like this or electronics. You can use this stuff as a sealer for those lights with batteries or anything that may corrode outside or in unstable temperatures, (cold, hot, wet, etc)

I've been using these for the same thing since Hurricane Gustav left us without power for 10 days. Harbor Freight always has some on sale. I jus recently bought another dozen for $1.97 each. My next goal is to take them apart, link the panels and batteries together, then tie all the diodes together in a homemade contraption for a bigger light :)
