Any ideas on what all it takes to GET a homestead up and running? Supply lists, etc?? I currently can't afford the property to o so, however, when SHTF, it would be a cinch to commandeer some land for this. Would be nice to know what all is needed, and how to get it all up and running....

That's a HUGE list. I would suggest that you get some homesteading books and start reading up on it. Subscribe to BackWood Home magazine and just read. You will need skills to go along with those tools.

Homestead list

A working homestead farm with powered equipment if biodiesel is produced, horse worked if not. 160 acres should be enough to grow self-sufficient crops like sugar beets for sugar; canola for cooking oil; canola for biodiesel; grains for human consumption; grains, silage, and hay plus pasture for the stock if the numbers are kept reasonable. Five healthy skilled adults should be able to work the land, using the power equipment without too much trouble. Not sure how many it would take to effectively farm with horses. If managed well the 160 acres should produce enough food for 10 people, the animals, and have plenty to sell.

Take note of what he has put forth. I have copied it all to my Survival folder.

I can tell you right now as someone who is building their own home, that good quality tools are a must have. And if you think you will just move onto a piece of vacant land in a fan event and make a homestead, you are deceiving yourself. With the assistance of two friends in 4 days we framed a cabin. And that was with grid power and Lowes delivering to the property the lumber, windows and doors, nails, rafter hanger, insulation, hurricane straps, sheet rock, water lines, gas lines, propane tank, water tank, electrical wire, panels, switches, outlets, appliances, wood stove, stove pipe, fire brick, septic tank, leach field lines. Trust me, it is NOT easy. I started work on the cabin itself, after having had the slab poured 2 years ago (due to work I wasn't able to come home and work on it) on Feb 4th and currently still have to do the log siding and finish the rough wiring to pass inspection. Then we run water and gas lines, install the gas lights, insulate, and sheet rock. At that point after I pass my rough electrical inspection, I can do the finished electrical inspection. All I have had subbed out was the steel roof (it would have taken us 2 days, an experienced crew 6 hours), grading, and concrete work. And in a fan event you not only would have to worry about food, but also security, so you NEED to have this infrastructure in place prior to an event. Even with a travel trailer with holding tanks, if you don't have mechanical muscle (tractor, skidsteer, etc) to dig trenches, move rocks, dig deep holes for septic tanks, you will be working on it a long time, especially if you are in the mountains or are trying to dig in hard packed red clay. If you can get at least a small piece of land (5 acres or so) with a good water source (well or spring) and at least some type of shelter on it (barn, shed, etc) you would be much better off. Not trying to burst bubbles, just provide a realistic view on this topic. And this is just to get started, to sustain one is even more involved.
