The 10 Essentials for your BOB

I was on another forum and this was thrown up. I thought I would ask you what you thought?

1. Map
2. Compass (optionally supplemented with a GPS receiver)
3. Sunglasses and sunscreen
4. Extra food and water
5. Extra clothes
6. Headlamp/flashlight
7. First aid kit
8. Fire starter
9. Matches
10. Knife

Id scrap the fire starter and throw in a pistol

As far as the extra food goes, make it small, nutritious, and tasty if possible. There is a recipe in another thread for D rations the size of a soapdish. I would suggest something along those lines.

1. Cold Steel Rifleman's tomahawk - firewood gathering, spear making, dispatching captured game, hammer
2. Cold Steel Oda knife - general knife work, skinning large game
3. Sawyer Point Zero Two Absolute 4-liter water purification system - will purify and carry water
4. Stainless steel cook pot with lid & spoon
5. UST survival kit w/Blast match, mirror, whistle, chainsaw, wetfire tinder
6. 100m roll of 550 cord - supporting stuff, tying things together, snares
7. GI Poncho w/Ranger Rick modified liner - Shelter, sleeping bag, insulated coat, rain coat, camo cover
8. Petzl Tac Tikka headlamp w/extra batteries
9. Cold Steel e-tool for fire pits, waste disposal, building debris huts
10. SAS Survival Manual - edibles and things to avoid, instructions on shelters


Carried in a Kifaru Marauder MOLLE Pack w/cargo chair and gun bearer

Usually have a Leatherman Surge multi-tool & Wenger Survivor Swiss Army Knife on the belt.

Depends on how BOB is defined.

1. water production
2. firearm and ammo
3. rain gear
4. quality foot wear
5. quality knife
6. First aid
7. medications / vitamins
8. High calorie, high carb, high fat food for high energy escape
9. boonie hat
10. several hundred feet of 550 para cord

So to speak a get home only bag, assumes 24 hours or less before you make it to your safe zone.
