Squirrel fishing!!!

The idea would work but I am wondering if the idea would be better added to a snare set up.
That way even if your snare missed you still had a good chance at a meal.

LOL
Sounds like the "Old catch ducks with bacon on a string, trick"
My basic tool rules:
Deploy your assets, if you spread them out no one know how many you really have............................
Redundant calibers are just another asset...........
Have passed, "need", along time ago.........
Invest in airplanes and firearms, never women or cars.......
Precious metals..........Brass and lead......
The more you know, the less you have to carry.......

Don't forget, Mike Huckabee says he used to fry them in a popcorn popper, so they must have been good. :pop:

I suggest using a number 8 or smaller hook instead of a treble hook.

You can also use a kernal of corn and catch turkeys. Give them 5-8 feet of line. When they feel the line going down the throat, they start running. That sets the hook and sometimes breaks the neck.

You can also catch turkeys by digging a hole about 2' deep and a little over a foot wide. Dig the hole on a trail they use. Spread some corn out both directions on the trail. Put some corn in the hole. Turkeys are greedy birds. They'll jump down into the hole and eat the corn. If the hole was dug correctly, it will be too deep for them to jump out of, and too narrow for them to fly out of.

It's also fun to put out a couple of spring traps with a little corn on the pan.

Are squirrels a good source of food or are they too lean to sustain someone on like a rabbit is?

A friend of mine runs sort of a trap line for tree rats. He uses a couple different trails through his wooded acreage.
He puts up rat traps on various trees and baits them with peanut butter. When ever a hankerin' for squirrel comes over him he goes out and sets a dozen or so traps and wah-lah. Instant fresh meat. When he's not trapping he puts out peanut butter or a corn cob on the traps to keep 'em fattened and so they don't get shy. He eats fresh meat whenever he wants it and has been doing this for a number of years

It depends upon your squirrels sixfold. I have 2 species around me, Pine & Abert's. The Pine squirrels are quite small so it takes about 7 or 8 to make a decent meal, the Abert's are pretty big but I also don't hunt them. The Pine's are not native up here so I kill as many as I can, making room for the Abert's. I've almost cleared out 1 gully which had 0 Abert's, it now has about 5 or 6 that I have found. I'm hoping to help the population out so when TSHTF I don't have to kill that many to make a meal like with the Pine Squirrels. The Abert's Squirrel also spends the majority of it's time on the ground vs in the trees so their a lot easier to see/find/kill.
