Mites! Gotta watch for the mites in the rice...it's one good reason to store it in clear jars in dark cabinets. When you pull out long-term storage rice, unless you froze it once, you'll see yellow dust on the bottom. That's mite poops and dead mites. If you open the jar and have really good close up vision, you'll see tiny forms, like very short yellow or tan hairs, or specks and they will stay vertical as you cant the jar. You likely have mites in any bag of rice you bought.

Yeppers, a bit of time in the freezer will kill them off, or so I've heard.

unless you freeze it when you buy it then vac seal it after going through to make sure theres no bugs by sifting through it that way you get the bugs or larvae if there are any at all. or keep in a sealed container.

I don't freeze things. I starve them of oxygen.

Open a Mc Donalds meal and leave it out in the open. It will dry out, but keep darn near forever, and bugs don't bother it :D

I've seen hotdogs that ants won't bother either

Dry Ice and Oxygen absorbers are good, bay leaves help discourage bugs some too if a few are placed in dry goods before sealing. I usually wash my rice before cooking anyway to remove most of the dust. F.G.

Freezing is good for other produce too, bangster. I freeze quick oats, dried fruit such as raisins and sultanas, even flour - (though I was a bit hesitant to do that at first). Seems to be effective.
When in doubt, apply rule ·223 or ·308 -- unless you have a more preferred calibre.
