actually, hemp provides more oil per lb of seed than anything and it is the fuel diesel engines were developed to use originally.

Hemp is really good stuff for many other reasons but it is not a prolific seed producer. So it only produces ~39 gallons per acre vs the sunflower at ~100 gallons per acre. http://journeytoforever.org/biodiesel_yield.html Where hemp really shines is its ability to produce oil and many other products like cloth from a single stand. It also requires less water, no pesticides and binds the soil better than most other crops. If we could just get the powers that be to legalize it we could probably get a university to breed a version that produces significantly larger seed yields. |

friends of mine were going to go in together to buy an oil press, probably the piteba. then they called the company and found out they could get them at half price if they bought 10. didn't take them any time to split up the order amoungst themselves.

+1 to all that. in fact, it's that very reason that makes hemp the best. namely, you don't need farm land to grow it. the stuff will grow where normal crops won't...say the medians of the interstate highways? surely that would produce an abundance of seeds from a source not already used. not to mention the silage, fibers and food stock that can be harvested from it as well. |
