Louisiana Swamps in August.

Upper Peninsula Michigan in Late January.

Na Pali Coastal Range, on Kauai, Anytime.

New Mexico Badlands in July.

West Texas, all Summer.

Spend a Week in a Walk-in Freezer.

Work Construction in October in Coastal Oregon or Washington State.

Work High Steel in New York in Late Summer, or Mid Winter.

Take a Trip on a Freight Ship to the South Pacific for 90 - 120 Days.

Pick any Five, and survive, and You are One Tough Son Of Buck!

Any place , terrain, environment, season, time, or scenario that you plan on having to operate in AFTER shtf. Evaluate results. Adjust tactics. Repeat process.

I'd say if you stay in one place, test in that place.

Greetings, Grimone,

This is very wise advice, especially since the rule for survival when you are lost is to stay in one place until and unless it is too dangerous to stay. I'd give you thumbs up but I can't see the thumb on the screen. I'll try after I refresh the screen.

For most people, this rule means to test your home, test your vehicles, test your workplace, test vacation spots or travel vistas and destinations, and especially test Every Day Carry (EDC) items.

If EDC items are good and sufficient, a person should be able to shelter in place in any place for at least a night.

Grimone,

OK, the thumbs up worked.

By the way, Cutts Island looks fantastic just for a primative camp site getaway. Testing survival skills would be icing on the cake.

One cheating hint: Bring butter! Lots of clams and crabs.

You may want to try a local Wildlife Management Area (WMA). Since we should be practicing surviving for a SHTF situation it may be best to practice in every season. Also, it would be great to pick and choose the ideal place to practice but would that actually be the best place to gain usable experience ? I agree with those who gain experience any time the opportunity presents itself. One vital key to survival is to have a full understanding of the environment you find yourself in and a thorough knowledge of the resources available in that environment. I thought most of us had a BOL. If real practical knowledge were to be gained seems like expending some energy at that location from time to time may be the best way to experience any problems that may come up as well as having some extra time to get a food plot ready or cut some more firewood or just generally get the place in shape for full time living. Just a few random thoughts.
