Johnny rocks! I have been surfing for info on filtering and gathering systems for some time now. I have some property in the woods, have a 10x10 storage shed built and plan to use it as test vehicle for all I wish to put on cabin, when God helps me make enough money to build it.

I found a site that sells water storage containers, they have one in black with visible water measure, 550 gal for just over $300. A pool pump and filter will pre-filter the rain water with bleach sanitation, then a high quality micro filter system. One 110v pool pump for the pre filtering, then a 12v pump thru the micro filter, all run from a solar charged battery pack, with an inverter for the 110 juice. Gutters plumbed to storage, drain will be plumbed thru pool pump/filter back to tank, or with change of valves thru micro filter

Thank you Johnny for the picks, helps me see that my thoughts can come to fruition!

I have thought of something much more crude but similar. Initial thoughts were to just bury below frost line upwards of 10 55gal barrels interconnected with plumbing coming upwards through the dirt to a water catch and prefilter system. This idea was a crude one thought up years ago and never implemented but inteneded for watering our food plots well inside the perimeter of the woods we own and far from our pond. We could always dig another pond, but that is not what we wanted...ponds take up valuable real estate. Now post member here on SHTFM.com, I could see this idea being very useful in keeping a garden watered (as opposed to a food plot for deer) more easily than carrying water from the pond. And keeping the fresh water hidden and protected from theives.
