I used to do the same Hammer. Sold mostly jams and pickled stuff.
I tell everyone to get the Ball Book and read it first so they understand how canning works. As you say, it's fairly simple and gets easier and smoother with practice. I used to have a 10 burner Garland and it was a fantastic stove to cook with...it's a lot different with a regular one. lol

A "Ball" canning book can usually be picked up where ever they sell canning jars (farm stores, Menards, etc).
It has recipes for most everything you can imagine.
