a couple of things ..... FoodSaver bags have a fairly short longevity ..... intended for a packaging for a 6 month period only ..... they loose their vacuum after that period of time ..... adding 02 absorbers to a FoodSaver packing is a waste of time ...... if you intend to pack for LTS (long term storage) of food stuffs, look into the food grade bucket/mylar bag/02 absorber method of packing ....... tons of info on this method of packing .....

Thanks, Illini Warrior. I kinda knew that, but I'm glad you spelled it out for us.

I love my food saver and have used it to portion out food for our BOB's. To get around the seal issue witht he food saver bags i just use mylar bags and cut them down to the size that I need. That way it protects it from light and oxygen (I haven't added an oxygen absorber, but I might in the future). The jar attachment is well worth the money. I would recomend one with out any reservations.

I stored some rice, about a quart per bag close to 2 years ago and I went through it yesterday and it was still sealed and good. I think alot of it has to do with the temp and location it's stored at. The cooler and darker the storage place, the longer it lasts. I will be getting the buckets and mylar liners just to be on the safe side. You don't want to take chances.
