phaydra suggested this topic:

I have been giving some thought to rendering aid to kids and/or orphans. We have a long history of being foster parents and adoptive parents. (28 kids total) One of my thoughts in teotwawki is to save as many kids as possible. Other than my own grandkids, I can't think of any more important reason for my own survival.

Would you, could you, do you plan to take in or render aid to orphans?

What would you do if starving kids showed up on your doorstep?

And DON'T say, 'I'll send 'em to doc's house'....

If they are willing to work and learn then I would say they are definitely more deserving of a chance then say an adult, who shows up demanding his entitled share of my supplies (which would likely be a bullet if they got too pushy). They are the future as long as they survive, right?

If they were the typical teen age punks you get around here they would more likely be trying to rob you then asking for help though.....

It really depends on if you can take care of them or not though, doesn't it? How willing are you to die or watch a family member die to help someone that you don't know?

I too have adopted kids and taken them in and raised them, thing is I am selective, I take in or adopt those I feel I can help. Some can not be helped, and some are down right vicious, so one has to be selective.
Right now there are 13 year old gang bangers who have committed murder, so justa tender age does not mean you cna automatically drop your guard and just welcome them in, Like adults you have to evaluate and get their vibe.
For the majority, yes I will help and feed them and take care of them, but some all you can do is send them on their way.
Also the children will be a big target for rape, robbery, slavery, etc. many children will go through that unless someone helps. Even with help, many will go through some really bad stuff, and you have to be able to handle the problems that causes and work them through it. Not easy, but if you don't help the next generations through the bad stuff, whats the point? They are the future.

I think I would, but this has to be judged on a case by case basis.

All same Calico Jack. Especially as, as wulfin said, "Some can not be helped, and some are down right vicious,...."
When in doubt, apply rule ·223 or ·308 -- unless you have a more preferred calibre.

It depends on the situation. Some I'd probably take in, if I could manage an extra mouth, some I would take to the authorities or charities if there are any.

I always imagine the worst case scenario ie nuclear war and in that scenario other than family and a few others I'm not helping anyone. In fact people would probably run from me in terror! A smaller one like flood or something? Sure I'd help if I could.

I define Kids as under 10 years old. I would be selective but in general I would take them in. Kids don't eat much and can be a great help if shown how to help. They may not BE very helpful at first but they can learn. They would need to show that they are willing to help. As for kids who won't help, I would send them on thier way after a couple of times of trying to get them to help.

I was hauling trees for my father and Uncle as they cut them down when I was 10. I did not have very much strength but I could drive a tractor. That free up men to cut the trees.

Also you need someone to take care of you when you get old or like me older.

Who will help you with the programing of your DVD player if you don't have kids around! :D

i honestly can't say i would help any kids, regardless. they're just more dead weight. also in a recent video post they talked about how kids could be very dangerouspost-shtf, because of lack of right-wrong knowledge. :gs:

One thing there is that all are saying. "My lord lays hands on the family lands of his servants." the nobles turn their backs on you. Plunder he will call it who has to hand over his heritage to a king's officers on some specious pretext.-Sigvat Þórðarson, c. 1035

:DNow that's thinking ahead!
I thought for sure somebody lmao (you know who you are) would say that they would take them in; since, after all you can always eat them.
