With one it is a quick full duplex on one band. I have used a scanner as the receiver for the repeater controller and a 2 meter VHF mobile for transmitter. Works pretty good. In an old CQ magazine, it was called the "Radio Intergrator" it was used to have communications between some of the group had 10 meter radios and the others had 2 meter radios, with this setup, they could cross band communicate. I have the diagram and the board layout pictures. I have two of the units I use here....

Don't need no cans..... :D and it won't work as simplex.......

You dont need cans as long as you have enough separation between the receive antenna and the transmit one.

In the late 70s or early 80s there were some guys in Southern California that put a an 11-meter repeater on the CB band. They used the old 49 Mhz Cordless phone for the link to allow decent separation between the receive and transmit antenna and avoid "de-sensing" . I believe most the guys ran either two radios or maybe had a relay that forced bits on the PLL chip or maybe changed the crystal mix. I guess they had the repeater pretty high on a mountain and got in hot-water with the FCC. However later the main instigator got his ham license and enjoyed quite a stint on the infamous 435 repeater in Los Angeles. I believe he has passed away by the "SK" next to his picture but to this day the users of the 435 repeater still talk about the days of the CB Repeater.

This is the way the world ends: Not with a bang but a whimper.

Getting licensed so as to gain experience before SHTF is a good idea. However, after SHTF I am not going to worry about a license.

I'd like to get a copy of that if you wouldn't mind please :)
