When I was a kid my dad ran an airline catering kitchen. (yes Virginia, they used to have food, even GOOD food on airplanes) On short flights they served small sandwich snacks. Almost all the airlines sandwich trays had B & M Brown Bread with cream cheese in it, and the two round slices once spread and 'sandwiched', were cut into quarters. Sometimes they put honey, or nuts or both in the Philly Cream Cheese.

I've eaten a true ton of those things. And yet I never considered that as a good prepper staple. It's readily available, it's a good, old fashioned, typically frugal and nutritious New England staple. I may get a can and make some Christmas Munchies with it.

But here's a prep question along these lines. Can we even GET canned cream cheese?!
To Paraphrase Dr. King:
.
"I have a dream that all men will one day be judged not by the size of their bank account or for their legal business affiliations, but by the content of their character".
.
Lord, help me to quit worrying about,
HALF-full or HALF-empty,
and make me thankful, for the glass!

There are sterile packed Squeeze Foil packets of Philadelphia Cream Cheese - I just don't know if they will last as long as the Plastic packets of Mustard w/o Refrigeration. I wonder if there is an Irradiated Version - That wouldn't spoil! Wonder if there is a service that would Irradiate the packets for a price - I would do it in a NY Second!

...So I went Looking - there is a study that shows that Cream Cheese loses only 5% of its Vitamin A as a result of Irradiation. So, Irradiated Product would be superior just after packaging, and the difference would grow as the weeks passed in storage.

Now, all I gotta do is find some!

I'll get back to ya!

Instead of banging the can to get it out, why not just open both ends and push it on through?

well the one time i tried to open both ends and squeeze it would crumble and be broken, I didnt wanna do it this time.

http://www.frontiersurvival.net/item--B ... ead12.html they list the shelf life of 5-8 years. Ive had my cans for about 3-4 years and they taste fine. and they are out of date. LOL but its still good.

I was raised in the 50's, and this bread was something that Mom served when we had company. From what I remember, it was rather sweet, and I loved it. In fact, I was thinking about it just a short while back. Ah, memories. If you can find it, give it a try, you just might be surprised. It hasn't been around all these years by tasting awful. IMHO
