Last evening, I heard what sounded more or less like an armed revolt here in Houston?!?!?

I heard weapons being discharged in great numbers!

Plenty of hardware ready to go folks.

HOPE YOU ALL ARE READY?

It just sounds like New Years. You must have moved into a worse neighborhood or the worse neighborhood moved to you. In my neighborhood they were shooting of in the air as well. Police came to my house of course because I know a couple. unless there is something in the News it was probably just kids being stupid.

This is a pretty good idea. I have just been storing mine in ammo cans but I like the idea of sealing them in Mylar bags with O2 absorbers first and then putting them in ammo containers. If nothing else it will reduce the moisture surrounding the ammo and by reducing the O2 keep the primers from slowly oxidizing.

I have two types of ammo I store. I store hollow point for SHTF and this is the ammo I will prep in the bags + cans. I also store FMJ and that I will just keep in the ammo containers as I shoot it up pretty fast.

Don't know if any preppers reload, but loading with IMR 4895 I have noticed the powder turns a rusty brown color. When asking dealers they say the IMR 4895 has been contiminated, has been left open or stored in a hot enviroment. Has anyone else noticed or had dealings with IMR 4895. I just hope it doesn't deteroriate in the shell. Now That Would Seriously Piss Me Off, having an undesirable in my sights and the gun goes Poof.

Why foil, Temp control or some other reason?

I have been sealing my ammo for a few yrs just to be safe. And then I inherited some old 12gauge #4s from my father-in-law that are cardboard hulls at least from the 60s that were stored in his un-heated; un-air conditioned work shop, and they go bang every time I pull the trigger. Makes me wonder if I am wasting my time with the food-saver ammo.

recently under extention of the patriot act and combination w/ 1867 law it is now ILLEGAL to own weather proof amunition. The distiction between fire arm and ammo have been made folks.
All of today's ammo other than BP is weather proof. The new extentions are intended for prosicution of terrorists but includes DOMESTIC terrorists. (Deft's have been broadened)

But Dack I can still buy ammo....yes you can.
But the verbage of the amandment has been left open in the case of martial law(like katrina in LA) so you could and would be considered a domestic terrorist if/when the FED decides to collect your ammo.

This was brought to you by REP's. Slipped into the 2012 budget bill signed by Obama. John McCain initiated and supported this legislation.
thanks to Sen KY Rand Paul ( a sensible REP) who called a "roll call vote"-(defeating several amendments)" things like missing a finger doesn't make you a domestic terrorist. & No a U.S. cit can not be sent to GITMO w/o being charged or Representation.
Yes..... Virginia... it was in JM's sen version of the legislation.

my point.......it's just not the Lib's taking your 2nd amend's away from you.
Pay cash for your Ammo where a copy of your I.D is not taken.

Any time the gov't says they are doing something for your own good or protection, they are taking away your rights. I'd rather keep my rights and take my chances.

uh... i have no ammo as i am a liberal pascifist as i have said before, but if i did have some...
i would not bother vaccuming it or whatever as i've seen the most correded messed up looking bullets go bang, and have even found a shotgun shell that survived the winter under snow, and it seems to be indistinguishable from new ammo. unless the primers crap out or something i can't see much going wrong, unless the shells somehow get powder wet or something, but the temp don't fluctuate that great indoors.

I have been storing my extra ammo in good old fashioned ammo cans for years.
Lately I've moved the ammo to my extra safe that is insied the climate controled house. Untile then it was in the garage.

2adirondack4u, that is the first time Ive heard that. Most ammo, even the mil stuff is not sealed for weather proofing. Often times the restriction fit of the primer pocket, and crimping round the projectile is more than enough to effectively seal the ammo against weather.

Yes, storing the ammo for long periods of time in very humid environments can cause moisture to eventually seep in through the fit. And yes, some MFGs do seal round the primer pocket.

Hell, eight years ago or so when I was with CAAT we were on the range and got ammo from the ASP that through the LOT numbers dated back to the sixties.
