no, I understand what you're saying. I am leaning towards (in no particular order) :
Kuvaz
Giant Schnauzer
Anatolian Shepard
Bouvier de Flandres
Greater Swiss Mountain Dog
A large mutt that I knnow the breed background would be ok too.

http://search.onlynaturalpet.com/search ... eeze+Dried This may help in the food department for your guard dogs. My choice would be a German Sheppard not to large but big enough to scare an intruder also very smart easily trained and the 2 i owned were very protective i plan on getting a couple more round first of this year.

This is who I'll have with me.
![]() .I found him a couple of weeks ago in"Jawja",draggin 2'ft of chewed through leash heading toward I-75 down a get on ramp. He's under a year old,is now over 80lbs(will probably go over 100lbs),He's bright, protective of family, loves kids,is good with other critters so far,He's good as a trucking dog(rides well),is super house broken, and has couth(only craps in the bushes).Once He gets over being a rambunctious pup,I think He'll become the best dog I've owned so far.We named him"Jasper",but call him"Jazz".Matt I want to die in my sleep just like my Grandpa, not yelling and screaming like the passengers in his car. ""I'm the one you go to when something absolutely has to go"Kaaboommm"!!!!""

Whatever you do, don't get a St. Bernard! I have one and she is the dumbest dog I have ever known! Fantastic disposition, loves kids, loyal as he'll, but dumb as a bag of hammers! On the other hand, I also have a half black lab, half Boston terrier. Smartest dog I ever had. She is great watchdog, and will attack a tree if she thinks it will hurt her family. She also figured out how to open doors by pulling on the handles. Also brings her bowl to us if she is hungry or thirsty. Great dog, and loves to hike and hunt. Swims like an otter also. Only drawback is that she HATES cold weather.

its not the size of the dog in the fight it is the size of the fight in the dog.
I had a lab that would play fetch with a truck tire and lord help the poor person that she thought was going to hurt her family. That same dog would let my dd dress her up as a ballerina and actually look like she was enjoying it. Actually i lean towards having two types of dogs. The alarm dog and the quiet attack dog.
