Not a bad Idea. Getting a smaller bag, keeping it empty, and adding that into your BOB list wouldn't be a bad Idea. This could be an assault pack, one of those Camelback type backpacks, a school backpacks, whatever. This is meant for you to cache your BOB and add items you'll need for a short urban excursion to salvage supplies and whatnot. You'll need to be light and quick. There's already a vid dochudson posted under Apocolypse Man that has an Apoc bag challenge vid in there, so I'll not bother going over the items here. However, I will say, if you've an outer frame pack, such as an alice pack, it would be easy to put this bag between the frame and the bag. Otherwise, you could put it IN the BOB, ot find some way to secure it to the outside. Either way, having a smaller bag available to put the tools you may need for a quick urban salvaging trip would a heck of a good idea.

An old ARMY post ALICE/782 gear pack, pre MOLLE, in woodland has an attached assault pack. That'd be a workable rig or a pattern to work off of...thanks for the reminder.

You could further this by taking a couple small, cheaper, duffles and rolling those up and placing them inside the Apoc bag, giving you more space to carry salvaged items. Tools wuld go into the Apoc bag, and the duffles could serve as extra carry capacity for the things you've managed to salvage...

I have 2 small bug out bags containing clothes and food. They have shoulder straps. And a small Camelbak backpack. and water filter. I also have a fanny pack containing a multi-screwdriver (full size), a pair of vise-grips, a knife, electrical tape and wire, zip ties, and a small pry bar and flashlight, and my walkie. It's not crammed full, but has a few essential tools. And a very small camera bag containing my SNS (and ammo). I can carry the "modules" that I need and leave the others that I use for other tasks behind. I don't want to be carrying TOO MUCH. And rarely will I be needing EVERYTHING at once.

Those cloth shopping bags are great for loot bags. If you go to places like Lowes, a hardware store they've got support straps and are still cheap.
good idea to tuck afew in some place...the titanium crow bar is expensive but good stuff. -GrimOne-future -Fan Replacer post SHTF.

I kid you not, Wartide: If you were caught carrying that around down here, a cop who had gotten out of the wrong side of bed in the morning could charge you with being in possesion of housebreaking tools. I carry such items in a small tool-box in my car, plus I have a number of those shopping bags in the trunk, neithert of which would draw any comment if my car was searched. (Random searches can be conducted by police if you are pulled over for a breathalyser test, registration check, or speeding. Same in the U.S. is it?) When in doubt, apply rule ·223 or ·308 -- unless you have a more preferred calibre.

Searches can only be condicted for probable cause, here. So if you're driving like a moron, you get pulled over, and the officer thinks he smells weed in your car, he can search your car. He has probable cause to do so. However, he can only search where you can reasonably reach. If there are passengers in the vehicle, he can search where THEY can reach as well. If he finds something worth mentioning (your bag of weed), he can, I believe, then search the entire vehicle.
Likewise, if you ARE pulled over for some reason, and he asks you (they have to ask YOUR permission to search your property with out probable cause or warrant) if he can search your vehicle, you don't have to give him permission to do so. Under law, he then can not do so with out warrant. However, be prepared to sit for a while while his department gets one from a judge. If you're expecting this sort of thing, make sure you have some snacks in the car, something to drink, a jacket.... It may take a while LOL. Also, here, you can carry any dang tools you wish! If you're stopped by police for whatever reason, and they ask to search your pack, and say you give them permission, they can't do anything about the tools in there, unless someone matching your description was reported in a burglary. But, then, they have to make a positive ID for an arrest. Unless they can place YOU at that spot for a burglary, there's not much can be done. Chances are, however, if you're on foot, with a backpack on, there's no reason to pull you over and stop you unless there is any such suspicion. Chances are, they'll drive by without any thought to it, as it seems everybody these days wears a backpack when walking on foot. Obama is a douchebag

Yep and things are in context...
for example, I might have a fillet knife in my tackle box when fishing and it doesn't matter how long it is. I can still have a 4" folder in my pocket while walking into Albertsons, but if some perp is caught creeping around as a trespasser or burglar with a 2" folder in hand, that's a charge, and if someone is caught outside a business at night working a door and has a screw driver and glass cutter, that's a set of burglary tools. -GrimOne-future -Fan Replacer post SHTF.

I never thought of that- good point, Bid. I guess it COULD look like burglar's tools. That could get me a beating from the cops if they thought so. I don't smoke weed, so I never have it in the car or house. I DO have a small tool bag that might be more appropriate to carry the tools around in. |

Also depends on circumstance war tide. If the chit has indeed hit the fan, chances are they'll be more interested in the people causing the ruckus than they are of little ole you walking with a purpose to some destination, not involved with the ruckus. Of course, this is no guerontee, so, keep your head on a swivel. If things have completely fallen apart, then who cares what you carry!
