Hi,
I'm Schteveo, from central NC. Grew up in KY, been here 40 odd years, married for 37, ex-Navy, gas turbines, power generation, two sons, one career Navy, missile tech, younger son was a Marine Combat Engineer. Mrs Schteveo is a computer engineer for the state, I'm disabled, ex-industrial eqpt tech and trainer.

I'm a fair shade tree mechanic, I've done lot's of construction work and I have a healthy respect for and knowledge of electricity. There's not many kinds of vehicles or building projects I'm afraid to tackle. I'm planning on building a forge. I did some training to become a blacksmith and farrior when I was (much) younger. So I could, if pressed, make some tools. (I'm buying old leaf springs to build a stock for knives, and garden tools, etc)

We moved to the country to get OUT of Raleigh. I fear if there's a financial / social collapse that being in there won't be good. My younger son and his family are buying a place across the street.

That increases our work force and knowledge base having him close by, again, if SHTF.

I've got just .8 acre to work with, but I'm preparing to buy the lot next to mine, same size, and then I'll have a huge garden plot, plenty of ground for chickens and even a few goats.

All in all, it's a work in progress. Which means I need resources, and while surfing, I found this site, so here I am. I know enough to know, there's much more to know. In my experience, there's nothing more dangerous than a know-it-all. Except those who know nothing, but act anyway.

Thanks to all of you for the welcoming I've gotten. After looking around, I'm REALLY not sure what I can offer to the group, but I'm here to learn AND contribute, so time will tell.
To Paraphrase Dr. King:
.
"I have a dream that all men will one day be judged not by the size of their bank account or for their legal business affiliations, but by the content of their character".
.
Lord, help me to quit worrying about,
HALF-full or HALF-empty,
and make me thankful, for the glass!

Everyone has something they can share and provide info or teach to others. No matter how skilled, no matter how smart, NO ONE knows it all, and through life experience, reading, whatever, everyone has things they know that others do not. Don't be afraid to share.
