So, I work 2 8's, 2 12's, and all my shifts are nights, split days off, and kids screeming all day. I don't get much sleep. I'm always exhausted. BUT, I work in a parking gararge, and have to cover 3 blocks beyond that, and the garage is 6 floors. I wondered one day, how much DO I walk everyday.... So I brought a pedometer to work, and turns out, I average 15 miles a day. Some days, I walked 25 miles. So, I needed new boots, and chose to get some good, heavy, steel toe boots for work. These things weigh 4 pounds. When I got these boots, I weighed about 175, I now weigh 163, and my big ole gut I had has slimed down to the point I need to wear a belt because my britches are too big. Not bad for a lazy b@stard!
So, NOW, I have a new plan. We can't afford a gym membership. BUT, I like training to fight, and, I don't mind so much doing stuff here at home. So, for work, I plan to, now, get ankle weights to add to my walking at work. I plan to get an old semi truck tire or tractor tire and a 10 lbs sledge for here at home, pull up bars, a couple kettle bells, some bands, and a speedbag. I already have a heavy bag, jump rope, and can do calisthetics and polymetrics, and, of course, get out on the road and run. I also have a large rucksack I can fill with weight and take a walk with also. This will give me plenty to do here at home on my own to condition myself. I'll probably mostly run high intensity circuts, while rucking days will be just that, devoted to walking with a pack, lets say 60 LBS to start, and, hopefully, get up to about 80 LBS before too long, with the goal of pushing that to more than 100 LBS. Here's the reason for training to haul such a heavy pack.... Once I get up above what I'd normally carry, it'll be easy to carry the weight I'd normally carry if I have to, say, evacuate, or bug out, or whatever folks wish to call it. It will let me carry enough to sustain myself and my family (guess who the family pack mule is) long enough to be able to either determine we can return safely or, that we can't go back....
Besides, it adds variety to my routine. So, this is my plan. It should do just fine, and much better than doing nothing.
No time or energy for PT

Wore me out just reading your plan, PM. I've been letting the lbs creep up on me a bit much lately, and have gone back on my old diet - I find it easier to do more exersize when I'm able to look down directly at my toes, rather than lean over the bread basket.
When in doubt, apply rule ·223 or ·308 -- unless you have a more preferred calibre.

I'm wondering what he means 'no time to PT' because he's doing it right now!

LOL I'll have to ease into this. But, here's the thing. I'm 34 years old. My wife and I constantly do our best to watch what goes into our kids' mouths because we want them to grow up healthy, not McDonalds babies, and, it'd be nice to be able to set the example and show my kids that staying fit and healthy is just great to do. Besides, I'll look manly, and make my wife want to "love" me more
I also have something close to -100 in energy (is that a number to describe I have so low an ammount of energy I OWE effort??)...... Anyhow, I can't keep up with the kids, stress gets to me, and exercise helps keep alot of these things in check. SO, wearing myself out I shall!! |

Sounds like you're on the right path. Pretty much all I do anymore is some kettlebell stuff, a few body weight exercises and some deadlifts.

Nothing too fancy. Should do wonders for management of stress and anger. |

I'd be VERY careful about the ankle weight thing. They don't let your ankles and knees move naturally an can lead to injuries from relatively insignificant mishaps; say, a smallish rock under the side of the foot. Instead of ankle weights, put 20 pounds in a fanny pack and just wear that while you're walking around. It puts the weight where it needs to be to keep you from hurting yourself. Other than that, you've got an awesome plan put together, PM. “We, the people are the rightful masters of both Congress and the courts, not to overthrow the Constitution, but to overthrow men who pervert the Constitution.” ~ Abraham Lincoln
