I first used super glue quite a few years ago when my daughter split her forehead open. After cleaning the wound with peroxide and drying the skin, I ran a bead of glue over the cut and the bleeding stopped immediately. Now, many years later, I can barely find the scar from that large gash not quite two inches long. I remember that my wife thought I was killing our child and rushed her to the Pediatrician. He said, 'Looks good to me.' and sent them home. But my wife has never let me forget what she thought was child abuse.... shrug

www.sim-vivo.com sells practice sets - (wife informed me LOL) - and has free video instructions on youtube and their site. Could use your own practice dummy constructed with docs plans and home gear if you just wanted to practice the knots...or you could spring for their kit since they are hosting the vids for free lol.

It would be difficult to exactly duplicate the type of suturing that I do. Picture suturing a popped balloon at the bottom of a coffee cup covered with cling wrap. shrug :hb:

In a pinch, sterilized human hair,or the hair from a horse's mane will work as a suturing thread.

dochudson, I understand the purpose behind your original post and totally agree! My Missus is enroled in a Wound Closure course next month. Official and properly accredited. I'll be doing the theory at home with her materials. Already passed the entrance exam with no formal medical training at all! Surprised the wife big time! She still doesn't realise just how far my field of expertise overlaps hers. But increasing both our skill sets is a mutual goal. I probably won't get the chance to practice that skill, but she won't get the chance to learn how to reload either. We have to spread the burden to have the best spread of skills we can, so we do what is best suited to each of us. But at least she will get the practice in real life sittuations that is the best teacher.

It's reel time is 100% correct but to get a good idea of how it feels to try to keep your shaking slippery hands from feeling like you've got 10 thumbs try using room temperature chicken thighs or legs, with a super sharp knife or scalpel cut a slice in it, for real practice cut through the muscle also and then suture back together. The fat from the chicken makes everything slippery just like it feels when your suturing a bleeding wound.
