Postal, you have to be very careful treating true MRSA (multidrug-resistant Staphylococcus aureus). MRSA is definitely resistant to Amoxicillin. Fortunately, MRSA is generally found in exotic locales, confined spaces: prisons, classrooms, gyms and hospitals (healthcare-associated MRSA (HA-MRSA). There are now some new strains of MRSA that are resistant to vancomycin, the last treatment known.(there is some hope for Linezolid, quinupristin/dalfopristin(synercid), daptomycin, and tigecycline IM). These new strains are known as VISA (no joke) (Vancomycin intermediate-resistant Staphylococcus aureus) Best treatment is always prevention, hand washing especially with hand sanitizer or chlorhexadine if you suspect that you have been exposed to MRSA.

I'm more knowledgable about MRSA,and CAMRSA than most people.Even more than quite a few MD's in my area as well.I could damn near write a book on the subject,as well as the proven ignorance and stupidity of the medical facilities and practitioners in my area. You see,I've had/caught(non-human contracted)MRSA six fall seasons in a row(I run a self funded animal rescue at home(dogs, cats, rabbits, and swine are known carriers).).It galls me when Doctors that dont follow their own guidelines look down their nose at you.Through shear desperation, agonizing pain, and experience treating abcesses on horses.I finally through research, and trial and error have come up with my own cocktail of antibiotics, and a topical conconction of my own with little if any side effects. The last straw with me was when I was perscribed"ciproflaxin".It made the MRSA go away quickly, and the side effects have left me with reaccuring ligament damage, chronic incontenance, and chronic yeast infection. To me thats not a very good trade.People, unless your on deaths door stay away from"cipro"and its"flaxin"cousins. If you doubt me Google the complaints of related side effects.Sorry about the off topic rant everyone.Matt

D@mn, Postal, I defer to your unimaginable history and hideously hard-won personal expertise with MRSA. My experience and understanding is minuscule compared to yours. Hats off to you M8. I hope you regain much if not all of the health you have lost.
