One of the members of my local MAG had to deliver some O2 bottles to a hospice patient in the Maplesville area yesterday morning (actually mid morning by the time the roads were cleared enough to even get through to the patient's house). He said the patient had been relying on the electric compressor except for 2 small O2 bottles he used for short trips. His family (including 2 grown sons who don't work) were all just sitting around inside complaining about it taking my friend so long to get there because his wife had had to ration his O2. He got there as soon as and helped others clear trees and limbs from the roadway and had to walk though downed tree limbs and scattered debris in the yard that none of them had bothered to clean up. But I digress and will get to the main topic.
If someone is dependent on O2 it only makes sense to obtain and store several bottles instead of relying on the electric compressor except for a couple of travel sized bottles. If they have a generator, that may not be as much of an issue, but mechanical things do tend to fail, so I sure wouldn't trust my life or the life of a loved one to one. Of course if the power were out for more than a few days they had better be heading somewhere that has power. Some things are simply not survivable and I guess that in an EOTWAWKI scenario that everybody who requires compressed air or O2 will be among the first to die because the supply would dwindle pretty quickly.
Oxygen bottles for those requiring it

Davo, there are portable battery powered oxygen concentrators available (compressors) that will run on a car battery as well as their own and mains power. A very good option for SHTF scenarios. But EXPENSIVE!

Sadly, situations like this are all too common, and expose a greater travesty than first appears.
Apparently the Wife and the Father are what we call no account. Raised children with no work ethic, and most probably living, all of them from Dads social security disability. When he passes, they will be sorely tested, as whether to stand him up in a closet, to keep the checks coming in. I am on O2 therapy, and my supplier visits monthly, to replace what I have used in a month. I keep 6 ''E'' sized tanks, which are used in a bottle rack on the back of my wheelchair. I will post more later, I am off to go grocery shopping now. “ Ever sift sand through a screen? ... We Bene Gesserit sift people to find the humans. ”

If you're a smoker (buttsucker) & now on oxygen...oh well...shame on you...Too bad so many buttsuckers adversely affect the lives of others...my father was a 2 ppd smoker...thanks to him, I would have a horrible case of bronchitis every winter....none since moving out of his home 17 years ago... If this offends you, go to hell
