On being an Old Fart, you know I lost more than half of of my hearing in my left ear and a good part of my right one also. It served me years well for many as a car salesman, I can't hear the customer say no. . I watch TV without sound on, there is nothing that they say worth hearing anyway.
I figure the loss was from watching launches from the island on the Carrier, even though I had the proper hearing protection on.
I would never exchange the experience for anything.
I believe every young man should go to the service.
Now my wife asks, Which one is your good Ear?
A side benefit and good thing is that I don't have to worry any longer if I forget my hearing protection when I go shooting.
If someone is foolish enough and thinks he is going to break into my house at night, they will have to get by the dog. His hearing is 8 times better than mine ever was. and is all teeth from then on.
The average estimate on a 911 call is 23 minutes, that is unless you tell them you have a gun and your house is being broken into, then it is 3-5 minutes.
Whether you have a gun or not, it gets things moving.
If the bad guys get by the dog, there is always me and the .12 ga waiting in the wings.

Talk about bad hearing, every now and then we would back a M110 up to a large hill or bank and drop the bore down on the deck and do direct fire missions, that's 32tons of self propelled howitzer jumping about 2 1/2 feet in the air, every time we would shoot a round it felt like someone punched in the face as hard as they could. If you had hearing protection or not it didn't matter, 1st time I did this I was setting in the AG set, after the 1st round I looked over at the gunner and his lips were moving but no sound was coming out of his mouth. I yell at him to speak up and hell there wasn't any sound coming out of my mouth either. I looked back at the 1st Gun bunny and he was laying on the ground with both of his hands between his legs like someone had just kicked him in the balls, Oh what fun we use to have when I was young.

Now don't give away all my secrets!!! Were's those glasses? I can tie them around my neck or get a ercul band. Never in the milatary, but still willing to listen and learn or go out front and be the target! Just shoot fast and straight can't run that fast anymore! Damn tripped again.

Just send some Mom's that feel that their children are threatened. I guarantee that the problem will be taken care of. Don't threaten the kids becaus the wrath of the pissed off Mom's will be more than you can handle! If you really want something scary send the pissed Mom's when they have PMS!
