Private transfers don't "add to the pool", so to speak, of firearms the government doesn't have any control over. I think the media's point behind even releasing the number is to highlight the INCREASE in the number of firearms in private citizens' hands. No doubt, this will later be used to highlight the "need for common-sense gun control" or something similar.

I think people see the rubber bands all stretched real hard in the middle East. And, some of that will wind up here too this time.
