I have been preaching this to all I know. I actually have left other sites because all those nuts want to do is buy guns and ammo and more guns and more ammo. I ask them how exactly do you cook and eat ammo or guns because after their one week supply of food runs out all those guns and ammo they spent thousands on aren't going to amount to a single plate of beans! I would recommend to anyone willing to listen that your main priority should be AT LEAST one years supply of food for your entire family AND a home garden capable of producing enough to eat and can at the same time. Yes I think everyone should have at least a couple of firearms they can use for hunting and self defense but let's get real, your chances of starving in SHTF are much much greater than being shot. That's a fact that has been borne out throughout every SHTF situation there ever was.

I am in the middle of it right now. It was a gift from a moderator on a homesteading site.

I have read "Patriots" several tiems (I tend to read and rereadbooks to get more out of them and study if I think they have things to teach me). It was a good read, but in some ways not realistic, as almsot all book are not.. it's for entertainment after all.

Good point about gathering enough food for a year. I advocate that to everyone! You HAVE to be able to make from harvest to harvest at the very least.

I agree 100%. I am striving for 2 years just in case crops or food production does not meet my expectations the first year for either natural or man made reasons.
