A lot depends on the magnitude of the event, if we see a SME/EMP or similar global event then all bets are off and it will be each person/family for themselves, your only chance for survival will be a well stocked remote and hidden retreat. If something less happens it will depend on how secure your hide/retreat is, sharing may be a limited option for some it will depend there is no one answer.
A good plan violently executed today is far and away better than a perfect plan tomorrow. Better to fight for something than live for nothing. General George S. Patton

Damnit Zzaaak, I just made a big ratatouille for tonight's dinner. The thought of a mouse in it.......
When in doubt, apply rule ·223 or ·308 -- unless you have a more preferred calibre.

If my buddies who are Cajuns had their way, if SHTF then the rat would end up in the pot, not eating out of it. Come to think of it, times get tough enough, I would put it and it's friends in the pot also. Nom nom nom nom. :D

How we decide to provide for others or if we do, will be left to each of us to decide, based on our own situations, our own beliefs, and our abilities. I don't think now, any of us can say what we will actually do, just what we think we shall do and maybe hope to be able to do.

I find a child alone hungry, not sure I could turn my back on them and not take them in as long as they seem like they are a decent sort and not a set up (yes, that may happen, has happened in other countries and history so sadly people have to watch for it). Remember we have 9 year old gang bangers and 12 year old killers and rapists now. How will things be after SHTF?

If necessary, you might find covert ways to provide for others, an amazing find of a cache with some supplies in it you get assistance to help divide out (which you pre set). A community center soup kitchen you provide for clandestinely, work through others who are willing to take the chance and be a target. There are always ways to do things if you really want to. You can even teach others to fish, hunt, gather known local flora and fauna that's edible or have medicinal properties, set up a trading post or a trade days meeting place like the mountain man meets, whatever. Imagination and some hard work can do wonders.
