Plenty of critters in The Hills. We have a tarantella we have named Gwen who lives in the bushes outside my son's window. A friend of mine always taps her shoes before putting them on because she had a tarantella in one once. Almost stepped on a 5' rattler who was sunning himself on my front walk last year; had a coral snake in my back foyer, came in through the dog door. Got bit by an asassin bug that was in a pair of sweat pants I put on last year; a scorpian dropped off the ceiling and into the bathtub when I was in it! Never moved so fast in my life. All of the kids have been stung at least once. No funnel spiders here, just the recluse and black widow which is everywhere. Saw a centipede the size of a small gardner snake while raking leaves, very pretty but supposedly very painful sting. No dingos here just ferral dogs and Coyotes. Don't think they have mountain lions though. If ever lost here, you could survive on bugs and snakes!

Australia looks a lot like the Hill Country!

You forgot to mention feral hogs, bob cats, mountain lions and copper heads. Then there's the whole plant world that's out to get ya here in Texas.

:new:

I thought it was a good starting place for those who think they know what they are doing but are to proud to admit it.
I was out in the woods of Colorado and I was being shown around by my friend. He was trying to show me a good place to fish. Needless to say he got turned around and just wasn't sure where he was. We were not even a 1/4 of a mile from his car. I have a good since of direction and suggested that we cut through the brush and we will run across the trail that will lead us back. Before I left to go back home to Texas I gave him a survival tool. It is all in one a compass knife whisle place for a lighter. At least he would have a chance!

This was a good post :gs:
