Wow, looks like you guys actually spend the time to plan. I have spent a lot of time trying to get others to 'see the light' and at least store some food/water, but some just won't 'commit' and just probably think i'm a 'kook', lol. I'm actually not to far from Springfield MA and have seen the worst part of that city. NOT pretty, and gangbangers abound. I have to think that they WILL leave the city when supplies are gone and the 'golden horde' will spread out like cock roaches both north and south of the city, which means they'll be heading my way, and probably yours. I guess i'll have to try harder......... :hb:

I've argued about this too long and researched it too much: it doesn't matter. About the picture on google maps or an address or a phonebook. It will be chaos. You think the golden horde will be looking in the phone book? Uh, no.

I'm bugging in because all my resources are marshaled here. I'm in the middle of 30 acres of prime land for growing food, cutting firewood, digging coal and getting water. When people think of "bug out location", they think of a place like mine only a little more remote. If TSHTF, do you think I'll answer the door if FEMA knocks on it? Forget it! We'll be in the safe room and we'll be loaded for ELEPHANT. When that time comes, you hide until you can't hide anymore, then, you blast everything that moves multiple times with the biggest thing you have. In other words, no offense until defense is required and then maximum defense until all is neutralized.

Simply put, I'll be the most compliant, meek little mouse on the planet until the switch is flipped. Once flipped, I become the meanest, most dastardly snakelike, scheming killer that ever lived. When the switch is flipped, it becomes personal.

Great but I also have my address on file, Number in the phonebook, probably a picture of my house on google earth. Or do you hopefully not.

If none of the bad applies to you then stay home just be sure you have enough of each to wait it out.

If you bug out. What are you bugging out with? Do you have enough supplies to last you? What about your family? Does your family have skills to bug out? do you have a plan in place? Where are you going to go? What are you going to do when you get there? is there enough supplies on you person to survive however long this crisis may last? Does everyone hve the skills needed to "live off the land"? This is just wrote to get you thinking. I hope everyone has took all of this into consideration. If so Great. You can avoid alot of "learning the hard way" If you do. I hope for anyone reading all your dreams come true. GOD BLESS

I think you should be able to do both in alot of situations, some not as severe you could bug in but there's places you wouldn't want to be if something catastrophic happened and you'd have to bug out. Mobilizing a substantial amount of supplies after the fact would be tricky if you were trying not to be seen, but not alot of people have the resources to have the house and a bol well stocked, and what if you had to leave your house in a hurry and it was impossible to get to your stocked bol lol. There's alot to think about and there's alot of different skillsets specific to each and that even differs depending on the enviroment you'd be bugging out in. Bugging in if you live in a populated area, security would be a major concern and going it alone would be very tough in a bad situation, flying solo has alot of advantages but it has its drawbacks too. Being prepared is a frame of mind,do you have enough of.............is the million dollar question with no answer. Great post, because there's so much that alot of people don't think about. It doesn't have to consume your life, just be aware and plan accordingly to the best of your ability.
Thanks,
Lost

IMHO unless you have a pre-planned BOL then that is a last ditch option to bug out. Where would you go? to "the country" with about a million other people? What about long term supplies? In most cases your better off trying to bug in. However even doing so you need to practice OPSEC and keep your preps quiet. You don't want the entire neighborhood showing up at the door with their hands out. Unless you live in a major metro area you should have some semblence of safty at home. Just remember to make yourself as un apealing as possible to looters. Hide supplies if you can, use a crawl sopace, basement, attic to keep supplies out of site. Spend some time practicing skills. Learn several ways of starting a fire. Matches, flint7steel, blast match, steel wool, fire bow and such. Learn how to filter water. Think of ways for hygiene, ( dispose of waste/ sewage) cooking on a grill or camp stove or fire. Learn the edible/ medicinal plants in your area and actually gather and try using them. IMHO in most areas it's a matter of how not where.

Now while we do have a retreat/BOl of 70+ acres we recently bought it still isn't ready for occupation except maybe by tent/camper it will be a project to get a basic setup ASAP.
If by my experiences, mistakes, and training. I can help one person to gain the wisdom that will allow them to survive or to save the life of someone they love then I can truly say, that all of the things I have done have been worth every second spent.
